My dear friend, the director of the S-town library, gave me a beautiful Channukah gift of this book (people see crazy covers and they think of me, go figure!).
My cover was a little different. Apparently my dog objected strongly, because before I could take a picture to upload to share with all you fine book cover critics, he did this:
Secret Agent Burnsie strikes again! Guess hydrocephalic cats freak him out, too.
p.s. 'Cause he's just so cute, here's a pic of the perpetrator (and his co-conspirator, Phoebe):

Who's a good boy? Who's a good boy? YOU'RE a good boy, Burnsie! Yes you are! Yes you are!
OH MY GOD HE IS SOOOOOOOOOO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, I'm a dog person. I get a little nutso about canines.
That cover looks like the cat-people nurses from the David Tennant "Doctor Who" episode "New Earth"
I was thinking the same thing about the Dr. Who cat nuns. Which makes me wonder which came first, the book cover to inspire the TV show, or vice versa.
Dog must have thought it said "Bread to Come" and got tired of waiting so ate your book out of spite.
I thought you may like this one;
I read a book recently called "Pleasures of the Flesh" by Laurence Haloche and on the cover was a beautiful young Parisian woman, lying naked on her daybed with drapery all around her and I thought to myself, "this will either be a book about the Parisian aristocracy, or about an artist and his lover, or maybe about a woman of pleasure". So one can understand my shock at reading a book about cannibalism!!
Check the book out @
LOL! I used to have that book (the first cover), but my parents' dog ate it (along with several other Andre Norton books). I see your dog has the same taste in books. :) Adorable puppies!!!
When I was in the 5th grade, we had an assignment where we were supposed to read certain number of science fiction books - I was a fantasy reader and did NOT like the assignment, but, whining and dragging my feet, I did the work. If I remember right, this was one of the books that made me realize I actually didn't mind science fiction all that much. The chewed up cover brings back memories - that was the cover of the copy I read. I think all the covers of the sci-fi books we could choose from were terrible - with covers like those, it's not necessarily so surprising that 5th grade me assumed the entire genre was probably crap.
Chooo chweet...the dog is cute....i donno about the "breed to come" but the cover reminded me of city dog/glam dog by Kennedy which i bought quiet a time ago frm a1books.co.in......cute anyways..:)
I loved that book...need to find my own copy.
Andre Norton!! Her SF was always somehow cat-related and usually quite readable. Gutenberg and Wikisource have various out of copyright works of hers.1
