Ahhh, bad puns. The last resort of sci-fi and fantasy authors everywhere. At least this book has a pun, though (and the clever, "What do bears do in the woods?" tagline). I have no idea what to do with this one:

Oh. My. God. It's like Pluggers...only...worse. If that's possible. What readership is served by these things? And what prompted Dickson to start such a series? "Hmmm...if I could combine the warm fuzziness of the Care Bears with the brutal and surreal violence of Akira..."
This is creepy.
I find the second cover somehow more disturbing. I mean, malevolent-looking Teddy Ruxpin eerily lit from beneath. I say, give me angry real bears with guns any day!
er...I think I had a dream about this one night, and I think the bear fought a unicorn in the castle from the Magic Kingdom. I don't even want to go into the psychological ramifications of this...
Oh snap! At least it isn't a furry novel. Hehehe.
You know, I've seen Akira twice and I still don't fully understand it.

This reminds me of "Pistols for pandas". Their sloagan is "they need all the firepower they can get."

Oh yeah, and the second one kind of reminds me alot of one of the covers for "ender's game."
The Hoka series isn't bad. It's just light-hearted sci-fi from back in the 60s or so (Lucas probably stole Ewoks from Dickson, not the other way around, which should surprise no one).
That said, some of the titles are just awful. The Sound and The Furries, for instance, or Hokas Pokas.
Actually the "right to arm bears" was used in a Jasper Fforde novel as well. The Fourth Bear. :)
