Picking on Focus on the Family

As long as we're picking on James Dobson and Focus on the Family (always a favorite past-time around my house), Preparing for Adolescence apparently involves pegging your jeans and humping a street sign and wearing all denim.

Viva las '80s, no?

That outfit is what all the cool kids were wearing circa 1989. Of course, that means it's what all the Focus on Family were wearing in 1997, and some of them still might even be wearing it today.

Ah, the '80s...when teen fashion was dictated by such übercool megastars as Mark Paul Gosselaer and the older-but-ever-hip Dave Coulier.

He looks like a member of Menudo!

He looks like an '80's boy band member who would eventually come out of the closet. (A FoF no no. So I'd respect him for that.)

I hope he did the right thing by at least calling that sign the next day.

Oh dearest GODDESS... I remember being made to listen to that ENTIRE series in 6th grade. They set aside a single day alone for the tape on sex and puberty and private parts... the Girls listened to it in the morning, and the Boys listened to it that afternoon... because- you- know, we couldn't POSSIBLY be allowed to listen to the SAME TAPE at the SAME TIME!!! Excuse me while I hurl.

Hey, do NOT diss Dave Coulier! Life wasn't worth living without Out Of Control! ;-)

jason: Oh my god...you mean Out of Control wasn't just a misremembered figment of my imagination, a pink elephant left over from the 10-year pop cultural binge that was the 1980s?

Yeah, I remember that show. Cut...it...out! I believe Canada once apologized for inflicting Dave Coulier upon us, in the same breath they devoted to Bryan Adams.

And having only one leg.

A past time is a time that is in the past. A pastime is something you do to pass the time.

I really don't like James Dobson, not at all. But my niece raised her son by his book and (JEEPERS) it worked. He's a fine young man. I've been uncle to several kids over the years, and he's the best kid.

Now I still don't like James Dobson but I respect his book.

You guys are so sad, with nothing better to do than to dis a book... what does that say about you? let alone the fact that y'all would't have a clue about raising children.

I love how it's called Family Tapepack...like there's a tape for every member of the family.

Son tape: Don't date girls! Not until college!

Mom tape: Your son needs to be supervised at all times.

Dad tape: Make sure your son doesn't smoke pot. Just in case, do a good demonstration with an egg. ("This is your brain! This is your brain on DRUGS!")
