Where do I start? Let us count the problems with this cover, shall we?
1. Bubble Butt
2. Paintball splotches that look like fungi
3. Octopus Hair
4. Yellow. *sigh*
5. Bad artwork in general (did someone get their HS aged niece to draw this?)
I actually like the dog. Don't mess with the bulldog. The rest of the cover is fair game. What do you think is wrong with it?
*Minor caveat* I actually read and enjoyed this book. Doesn't excuse the cover, though.

"Bubble butt" was the first thing I thought of too!...then I thought, "where have I seen this artist's work before?" And the answer came to me: it was here.
I'm glad you mentioned that those are paintballs, I don't think I'd have figured it out on my own. They look like some sort of brain-sucking creature the low-tech techies working for the original Star Trek would've designed.
She seems startled that her paintball gun does, in fact, shoot paintballs.
Of course those are paintballs! What else could they be? (Don't listen to your inner 13 year-old boy, Snow.)
6. Sissy-girly way to hold a gun - come *on*, women can fire a weapon without collapsing.
And I agree w/ docturtle; the splotches look like brainsucking blobs. Hey, maybe that's what happened to Ms. Octopus Hair.
Those aren't just any fungi. They're the Fungi from Yuggoth.
And what is that gun? It doesn't remind me of a gun; it reminds me of some of the stuff every time I go to be tortured at the dentist.
Not to mention the metal claw on top of this so-called gun which is apparently trying to grab one of the Fungi from Yuggoth before it lands.
At first glance, the black-and-yellow made me think this was "Disgruntled Employees For Dummies".
Nothing wrong with having a bubble butt....
Yeah, but there's something wrong with this bubble butt!
The problem is in the different perspectives on the lead figure. Don't even try to stand in that pose. Her torso is twisted all wrong for us to see her both butt from that angle and the side of her boob. Also, both her face and gun hand are in profile -- other angles are just so much more difficult to draw.
It's also the artist's first work after the "shading in color" lesson.
The bulldog reminds me of the one from Preston Blair's Animation books:
