Fortune's Fool

So I've decided that no site dedicated to showcasing bad book covers would be complete without a Mercedes Lackey cover. This one's been on our New Books shelf for a while and it makes me laugh every time I see it.

Ahhhh, the '70s. Although, actually, I see people like this all the time in Asheville. Personally I'm waiting for the '80s to come back in style. I've got some some AquaNet hairspray and jelly bracelets that I've been saving.

I did, however, want to draw your attention to the guy in the background on the left side (c'mon, did you really need me to point him out?!). I think I've seen him somewhere before...Oh, yeah, here it is: Armi and Danny

I do believe it's what they call a "lute." A better question would be, "why is he wearing a dress?"

It's David St. Hubbins, and he's playing the pipes of pan. I don't know why they're not at Stonehenge, though...

Someone's having way too much fun with Photoshop. Lensflare - the tool that makes anything look like a cheap floozy.

A little off topic, but what's up with the "Filthy Hippies in Asheville" guy? Is that for real or is it the product of docturtle's evil satirical twin?

Snow,

I'm almost sure that's a spoof. If it is, I think it's funny. If it's not, well, I still think it's funny, but in a more shadenfreude kind of way.

Looking at this cover again, I'm pretty sure a better title for the book would have been RenFest Rejects.

I love this blog, thank you!
I couldn't believe that video or song was for real! Yes, Hippie-Dude would have fit right in!

Docturtle, I'm pretty sure Mercedes Lackey already published RenFest Rejects. Probably as a trilogy.

I thought it was Edgar Winter back there. He's gonna come back too, just you wait.

In reality she is a very nice lady but she gets saddled with some awful cover art. Her husband Larry Dixon does a lot for her but this doesn't look like one of his.

The instrument the guy in the background is holding is a Finnish "Kantele". The girl's dress and the silhouette of the church refer more to Russian culture though...maybe this is a story of a Finn seducing a Russian girl with his music... :P

Armi and Danny...what can I say. My deepest apologies on behalf of my country.
